Police report 11/4/09

The Cape Girardeau Police Department released the following items. Arrests do not imply guilt. DWI * John L. DeBerry, 50, 1015 Bloomfield St., Apt. 5, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. Arrests * Clayton L. Anderson, 20, 1548 Revlon Drive, was arrested on suspicion of stealing. * Kendale D. Patrick, 20, 520 N. Fountain St., No. 5, was arrested on suspicion of stealing. * Jenna A. Young, 23, of Oak Ridge, Mo., was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. * A 16-year-old boy was cited into juvenile court on suspicion of stealing. * Adam L. Davis, 24, of Greenville, Mo., was arrested on a Cape Girardeau warrant for failure to appear for stealing, two Cape Girardeau County warrants for fraud (insufficient funds) and failure to appear for an original charge of forgery and a Jackson warrant for failure to appear for driving while suspended. * Cathy L. Hampton, 41, 1205 S. Ellis St., was arrested on a Cape Girardeau County warrant for failure to appear for fraud (insufficient funds). * A subject was in custody pending filing of formal charges on suspicion of being a minor in possession of alcohol by consumption. * Brian A. Segura, 21, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., was arrested on a Cape Girardeau warrant for contempt of court for following too close. * Timothy N. Tooley, 19, of O'Fallon, Mo., was arrested on suspicion of being a minor in possession of alcohol. Assault * Statutory sodomy was reported. Thefts * A jacket and amplifier were reported stolen at 226 N. Ellis St. * Bi-State Southern, 612 S. Sprigg St., reported three separate incidents of theft of gasoline. * Rhodes 101, 10 S. West End Blvd., reported a theft of gasoline. * A wallet was reported stolen at 3821 Valley View Lane. * Rhodes 101, 1126 N. Sprigg St., reported a theft of gasoline. Jackson The Jackson Police Department released the following items. Arrests do not imply guilt. Arrests * Robert E. Jackson, 42, 630 Broadridge Drive, Apt. B3, was arrested on suspicion of driving while revoked. * Adam L. Davis, 24, of Scott City was arrested on a Jackson warrant for failure to appear. Thefts * A theft was reported in the 600 block of East Adams Street. Property damage * Property damage was reported in the 300 block of East Lane. Southeast Missouri State University The following item was released by the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Public Safety. Theft * The Southeast Missouri State University bookstore reported a theft.

Hayti man arrested on drug charges after traffic stop

HAYTI, Mo.-- Police intervened in a situation on Monday, in which an intoxicated man was driving in such a reckless manner, it could have been potentially dangerous to others on the road. According to Hayti Police Chief Paul Shecknell, at approximately 9:58 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Arthur Liddell, 28, of Hayti, for careless and imprudent driving at excessive speeds. Liddell, who was operating the vehicle on a suspended Missouri license, was acting suspicious, according to the police, which led them to investigate further. As a result of the effort, investigators located a large clear plastic bag containing marijuana, and were prompted to perform a field sobriety test on Liddell based on the fact that a strong smell of alcohol was present. Liddell was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving by excessive speed while drinking, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Liddell was issued a cash-only bond amount of $1,175, and a court date of April 7, 2011 where he will face his charges before Judge Byron Luber.

'Shots fired' report leads to drug arrest at Caruthersville

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo., -- A Caruthersville man was arrested yesterday in connection with a report of shots being fired at the 400 block of East 14th Street. According to City Marshal Chris Riggs, officers were called to the scene regarding the discharge of a weapon and observed a gold Pontiac Grand Prix leaving the area through a neighboring yard. When officers pulled the vehicle over to investigate, two African-American males fled on foot, which resulted in a pursuit that ended with one suspect being taken into custody. During this incident, the suspect, according to police, attempted to swallow a large bag of crack-cocaine which was recovered by the arresting officers. The 30-year-old suspect is being charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, resisting arrest and tampering with physical evidence, according to a police report. He was processed at the Pemiscot County Justice Center and later released after posting a $70,000 bond. Riggs noted that officers also searched the vehicle the suspects fled from and located a hand gun, which was seized as evidence and will be sent to the crime lab for DNA analysis.

Collision on I-55 results in one fatality

PEMISCOT COUNTY, Mo. -- A 29 year-old Caruthersville Mo., man was killed in a two car collision on Tuesday, April 5 in Pemiscot County. The accident took place at 5:40 a.m., on Interstate 55. According to official reports, the accident occurred when a southbound 1996 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by William E. Smith, of Caruthersville, crossed the median, striking a northbound 1999 Peterbilt truck, driven by Larry D. Hubbard, 53, of Burnesville, Minn. Hubbard's vehicle suffered moderate damage while Smith's vehicle was totaled. Pemiscot Coroner Jim Brimhall pronounced Smith dead at the scene and he was transported to the Pemiscot County Morgue in Hayti, Mo. Next of kin have been notified. Investigating officer was Corporal M.M. Jones, assisted by Sergeant L.R. Clark. This is the tenth fatality for Troop E in 2011.

17-year-old Rector girl killed after vehicle hit by train

RECTOR, Ark. - A 17 year-old Rector girl was killed on Wednesday morning when the 1999 Pontiac she was driving collided with a train. The accident occurred at 8:15 a.m., on County Road 481 in Clay County. Arkansas State Police has identified the girl as Kayley Dare Bell and has said that she was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident. According to official reports, the accident occurred when Bell's vehicle was traveling north on County Road 481 and crossed the tracks in front of the Union Pacific train. The train reportedly clipped the rear of Bell's vehicle, causing her to eject. Upon arrival of the coroner and examination, Bell was pronounced dead at the scene. Bell's body was taken to Hoggard Funeral Home in Piggott, Ark., and next of kin was notified. Investigating officer was Arkansas State Highway Patrol Trooper Terry R. Burdin.

Cassville man arrested at Hayti on drug charges

HAYTI, Mo. -- A commercial vehicle driver was arrested outside a local gas station following his suspicious behavior inside the store. Chief Paul Sheckell said in a police report on Friday that formal charges have been filed against Tony G. Dunfee, 47, of Cassville, Mo., for possession of a controlled substance which carries a bond amount of $25,000, stemming from an arrest at the Pilot Travel Center. Sheckell explained that an investigation on Dunfee began after officers observed him inside the gas station around 2:30 a.m., "appearing to be under the influence of a controlled substance." Upon leaving the business, officers conducted a traffic stop on Dunfee's commercial vehicle for an illegal license plate light. During the stop, Dunfee provided permission for officers to search him, and a clear plastic bag in his front pant pocket tested positive for methamphetamine. Dunfee was arrested and transported to the Pemiscot County Justice Center as a result of the incident

2 arrested following Cville traffic stop

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo., -- A routine Caruthersville traffic stop resulted in two arrests in connection with the discovery of crack-cocaine on the driver and two municipal warrants for his passenger. According to a report from the Caruthersville Police Department, at 12:30 a.m., on Thursday, April 7, officers stopped a vehicle pulling a trailer that had expired registration at 15th and Schult streets. During the traffic stop, officers located a "small bag" of crack-cocaine and an undisclosed amount of marijuana on the 54-year-old male driver, of Caruthersville, who was subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance, in addition to possession of marijuana, driving while revoked, no insurance and expired registration. The subject's name was not released pending the filing of formal charges through the prosecutor's office. He was issued a bond of $50,000 and taken to the Pemiscot County Justice Center. The passenger of the vehicle, Rondrigues Johnson, 21, of Caruthersville, was also arrested, according to the report. Johnson was wanted on two Caruthersville Municipal warrants charging him with resisting arrest and willfully opposing a police officer. Johnson was given a bond of $285.25 cash-only and taken into custody at the Pemiscot County Justice Center.

Chaffee woman is hospitalized after a wreck Wednesday

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 54-year old Chaffee resident was sent to the hospital after a wreck Wednesday afternoon. Kim Spooner was driving her 2010 Honda Civic on County Road 229 in Chaffee when she ran off the road and struck a culvert around 4:30 PM. Spooner was wearing her seatbelt but was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center with serious injuries.
