Collision on I-55 results in one fatality
PEMISCOT COUNTY, Mo. -- A 29 year-old Caruthersville Mo., man was killed in a two car collision on Tuesday, April 5 in Pemiscot County. The accident took place at 5:40 a.m., on Interstate 55. According to official reports, the accident occurred when a southbound 1996 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by William E. Smith, of Caruthersville, crossed the median, striking a northbound 1999 Peterbilt truck, driven by Larry D. Hubbard, 53, of Burnesville, Minn. Hubbard's vehicle suffered moderate damage while Smith's vehicle was totaled. Pemiscot Coroner Jim Brimhall pronounced Smith dead at the scene and he was transported to the Pemiscot County Morgue in Hayti, Mo. Next of kin have been notified. Investigating officer was Corporal M.M. Jones, assisted by Sergeant L.R. Clark. This is the tenth fatality for Troop E in 2011.
