Police arrest suspect after stabbing in New Madrid

NEW MADRID, MO - Police arrested a suspect after a man was stabbed Wednesday night at a bar in New Madrid.
New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens says 42-year-old James Edward Brown of Lilbourn was arrested at him home just before noon.
Brown faces charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
Fred Thomas of Lilbourn has a lacerated kidney on the right side of his body after someone stabbed him around midnight at a Club Flex at 719 Russell Street.
Stevens says the fight started outside the club over some money. He says the suspect then went inside where they were having a fish fry and some oil got knocked over.
Thomas was airlifted to a hospital around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. He had surgery Thursday morning. Stevens says he is in serious but stable condition.
Brown is being held on $100,000 cash only bond.
Stevens said this is the first report of violence at Club Flex, but his department has been called to that neighborhood several times
